Staff Accountant
Are you seeking a mid-sized company to demonstrate your accounting and finance skills? Then Lawrence Merchandising Services may be the company for you…We are currently seeking an ambitious, adaptable Staff Accountant to play an integral role in our growth. The ideal candidate for the position of Staff Accountant will be an efficient mid-level accounting professional who is interested in working for a leader in the merchandising services industry.
We offer flexible hours, a small office setting with the benefits of being part of a larger company, hands on cross training with the opportunity to be involved with a variety of diverse job functions.
The Staff Accountant position performs a broad scope of professional accounting activities requiring experienced, professional knowledge and application of accounting principles and practices. This includes transactions related to cash, receivables, fixed assets, trade payables, tax payments, and accrued or prepaid expenses.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
*Prepare standard accounting reports and statements and non-standard reports and statements for management. (i.e. income statements, balance sheets, client profitability, etc).
*Initiate and process journal entries into various accounts. (i.e. A/R Aging, A/P Aging, etc)
*Complete month-end and general ledger closing and financial reporting preparation in a timely manner.
*Review various reports for errors or inconsistencies; investigate and correct problems when needed. (i.e. Invoice register, PO Accrual, etc)
*Manage account receivables and accounts payables.
*Handle cash application and deposit preparation in a timely manner.
*Process client credit card charges.
*Assist in the development of budget/forecast.
*Work to improve organizational efficiencies.
*Interact with external auditors during annual audit.
*Assist in a variety of other technical and non-technical related tasks.
Qualified candidates will possess and/or have the ability to:
*Two or four year degree in Accounting, Business, Related field, or equivalent experience.
*Three to five years of experience with exposure to all areas of general accounting.
*Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures
*Superior numeric skills.
*Effective and efficient project management skills.
*Excellent organization, documentation and follow up skills.
*Computer and software literate. Must be able to operate a personal computer and standard as well as more advanced software, including Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and internet related programs.
*Working knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems (Quickbooks and other).
*Be flexible to accommodate pressures and demands as required by schedules, deadlines, etc.
*Prioritize and multi-task multiple projects successfully to completion.
*Effectively interact with all levels of employees and customers.
*Resolve problems, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure.
*Work independently and within a team environment.
*Be resourceful, assertive, detail oriented, energetic and highly self motivated.
*Effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
*Organize, schedule and follow instructions.
*Demonstrate initiative and creativity.
*Perform light day and overnight travel, as necessary.
*Maintain confidential or sensitive information.
